Always On My Mind  nagrana została przez Elvisa 29 marca 1972 roku w RCA Studio Hollywood. Piosenka został nagrana za pierwszym podejściem a niektóre partie instrumentalne zostały dograne 27 kwietnia i 8 maja tego samego roku. W roku 1981 w filmie biograficznym "This Is Elvis" znalazł się materiał filmowy z tej sesji. Singiel Separate Way/Always on My Mind ukazał się w listopadzie roku 1972 a piosenka zajęła 16 miejsce na liście country i pozostała tam przez trzynaście tygodni.
