You Asked Me To została nagrana 11 grudnia 1973 roku w Stax Studio Memphis. Tennessee. Piosenka ukazała się na płycie długogrającej „Promised Land” (RCA Victor (ST) APL1-0873) ze stycznia 1975r. W roku 1981 Felton Jarvis producent Elvisa od końca lat 60tych do wokalu artysty dograł nową ścieżkę dźwiękową, którą wydał na longplayu „Gitar Man” (RCA Victor (ST) AAL1-3917) wydanym w styczniu 1981r. Pod koniec 2000r. piosenka w nowej wersji trafiła na kolekcjonerskie CD „Too Much Monkey Business” (RCA/BMG/FTD 74321 76749-2).
